If your mum was to die and she has no savings or a financial plan in place, what happens if the person left to take care of her funeral can’t afford to do so?

A funeral payment is a payment to help people on a low income with the essential costs of a funeral. You must show that you have met these expenses. You do not have to repay a funeral payment, although it can be recovered from the estate of the person who has died.

In the UK the person who claims the body pays for the funeral, so if you couldn’t pay you do not claim the body but go to the council which wold create the person and pay the cost ( as long as you really couldn’t pay)……………..

You can apply to the Council.
If someone dies and there is no-one to pay for the funeral, then there is a provision for a basic funeral to be provided at a local crematorium.

If the person owned any property.. house, car, etc the council will pay for the funeral then claim the money back.
