My Friend Disapproves Of Me Wanting To Join The Marines?

I am really upset about this situation because I want to join the Marines and my friend doesn’t like the idea. He says that USA sucks and asks me why i want to join. He asks me why the **** would I put my country after me. Well, he said it like this ” Why the **** would you put this shitty *** country after yourself”. I said that i would like the preserve the freedom and liberty of the country. He said that USA has no freedom and is just trash. That shook me a little bit and I was angry on the inside, but showed calmness in the outside. He also said that if I get killed in the Marines that he won’t go to my funeral. Why does he think what i’m doing is so wrong and evil? I told him if he’s really my friend, he should support my plans if he likes it or not. He said, ” Why would I support you to just join and die?” I tried explaining but I couldn’t convince him. We also ran into a Soldier and I asked him some questions to try to convince my friend. When the soldier left, he still was acting stupid and foolish. I really don’t want to be friends with him if he’s like this cause this is my dream and my passion to become a Marine, and he’s trying to demoralize me for following my dream. I known him since kindergarten so i guess you can say he’s the closest friend i have. I feel really uncomfortable hanging out with him knowing he feels that way. What should I do really? We are both freshmens in high school.

Don’t join the Marine Corps! Don’t do it!
You will hate EVERY second of it. Trust me.
I am on my last year of my 5 year contract and I still would give my balls to EAS now.
Besides, they are cutting back a ton, I am surprised I still get ******* paid.

Your friend sounds totally immature! If this is what you really want, go for it. He should be supporting your decision instead of putting you down, and it doesn’t sound like he is a good friend. The USA doesn’t suck to you, and you are wanting to do the right thing to serve our country, and i totally support you. Also, don’t listen to him, you are not going to join and die. As long as you be as safe as you can! But it would be a nice way if you were to die somehow, to know that you died doing something that’s right and serving your country. Follow your dream!

Sounds like you answered your own question. Cut him loose.

Often, no matter what you say, you can not convince someone like him that what you are doing is nobel and right.
So, if you can not change they mind, just have fun making them as made as you can. See if you can get their head to explode in frustration.
Just tell him it has nothing to do with your country, or any of that stuff. Tell him you just like the idea of getting paid to shoot people. And if you get killed, so what? Once your dead, you ain’t gotta worry about dying anymore.
I mean you might as well mess with his head, cause you ain’t never gonna change what is going on inside his head.

Well joining the military is a serious choice but you can not let ANYONE influence you’re decision only you can do that so think it through and only listen to put ups not put downs if the that illogical.
