I am 21 years old and have been planning this tattoo for about 6 months now, researching shops and artists and having it drawn out and what not. I finally booked an appointment with an amazing artist for Monday. I cant stand needles =\. It is a canary with music notes coming from its beak with cherry blossoms about 8 inches by 4 inches (maybe a little smaller) on my ribs (OUCH, I know =[.) It symbolizes my love for singing (as canaries are known for singing) it also symbolizes my late grandmother whom i love very much as her favorite color was yellow and she loved canaries. Also, her favorite song (which was played at her funeral) was "Wind Beneath My Wing" by Bette Midler. I was going to get her name under the wing buy my uncle says she hated tattoos and any reference to her in a tattoo would be insulting her. I do not remember her having any opinion on tattoos but I love my uncle and will respect his wishes. The cherry blossoms symbolize living life to the fullest because any day can be your last (my grandmother died at age 68). I absolutely love my idea and was looking for other opinions =] I currently have a small treble clef on my foot so I know how it feels…. Not so nice =] here is a drawing I had a tattoo artist do for me… The bird is all yellow and the cherry blossoms are pink and yellow. yeah, I’d get it mostly one color with an accent color if you want but with the way it’s drawn, if you do the top half one color and the bottom another one then ppl are going to think it’s a sparrow, the drawing of the bird itself looks like an old school sparrow tat.
I love your Idea though and think it’s gonna be beautiful. you don’t need to have her name, you’ll know it’s for her and tattoos are really for the ppl who have them.

The two halves of colour on a bird, is for a sparrow, thats what tattoo sparrows are known for. If you want to to be a distinct canary I’d say one colour, or shaded.
The rest is nice though.
