Hello.
I enlisted 07/07/2010, in the National Guard for a 6×2.
I completed basic training but was at my AIT and did not complete it do to a 20 day hospalization (Psych Ward) and break in family care plan. My DD214 states I have Net active service this period: 6 months 8 Days as well as 6 months 8 days intial entry training my release from active duty states Type of seperation: Release from Active duty training. Honorable Code MBK and Narrative reason for seperation is: Completion of required active service. Reentry code 1 speration authority AR 635-200 Chap 4. I was told I’m being discharged and not only for family care plan but also because the surgeon general will not approve my condition (Bipolar 2) but besides that I was wondering if as of now 09/13/2011 if I qualify. Some websites state the training counts. Other websites says it does not and also with all these new bills and etc passing I’m confused. My advisor at school says I qualify but she has already made one mistake so far plus I would like a second opinion to make sure I do not fall into any more debt. Thank you so much.
I found the below on the GI Bill website.
What type of active duty counts for a Reserve or Guard member regarding the Post-9/11 GI Bill?
The following active duty qualifies for Post-9/11 GI Bill eligibility:
•
All Title 10 active duty duty supporting named contingency operations
•
Title 32 service for the purpose of organizing, administering, recrutions, instructing, or training the National Guard (not payable until October 1, 2011)
•
Title 32 service under section 502(f) for the purpose of responding to a national emergency (not payable until October 1, 2011)
•
All voluntary active duty, with the exception of active duty for medical care and medical evaluation
All forms of inactive duty training (drills and funeral honors), as well as annual training do not qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill education benefit.

As far as I know if you were honorably discharged and spent more than 3 months on active duty you can recieve it. Best thing to do is go to ebenefits.gov and find the form to fill out. Do it and see what happens. Worst case senario they say no.
