Do I Need A License To Work At A Mortuary?

I have applied at “Guerra Guttierez Mortuary” in Los Angeles CA and was told that i will be hired as soon as i make a check out of $165 to get licensed to sale the Business and coffins. Is this common? what kind of license is it that i will need to sell coffins and funeral plans? i’m afraid that this might be a scam…
