I have life insurance on my children and although i hate thinking about it if something were to happen would the funeral home bill the insurance (gerber)??

I’m not sure where you live so this may or may not help you. I live in Canada, ON. Most funeral home require half up front and the remaining half on the day of the services. Some even give you up until a week afterwards. If you don’t pay they will “remind” you that you owe and if you still do not pay they will send it to collections.
If you don’t have money you can apply for government help through Ontario Works. The government will pay for a basic funeral and burial or cremation.
