For prom, I plan to wear a black tux (suit) on the outside, and a black shirt for the inside, along with black pants and black shoes.
Anyway, I was wondering if a black shirt still needs a tie to go with it.
My dad said I should NOT wear a tie for a black shirt because it will make me look like I’m going to a funeral instead of a ball.
Is my Dad correct? do I need a tie or is it more pro to not wear a tie for a black shirt? (**IF** I do need a tie, what color/pattern of a tie should I get?)
Thanks!

Mirra papi lindo, I would personally suggest wearing a white tie. Now listen to me I have experience in the fashion industry: wearing a white tie will add a little color to the (no offense) funeral look your going with.
And if you get hot and take off your blazer you’ll still look mighty fine because the white tie will add a stylish look for your entirely black outfit.
So with and without the jacket you’ll look fine. But if you decide to go all black without a tie, I suggest to go with your first three buttons undone to make you look like a papi chulo <3
It’s stylish.
OR add a white blazer instead so you won’t have to wear the tie and you won’t look like you aren’t going to a funeral. Actually any color blazer (with the buttons undone) because the black will go with any variety of blazers.
Sincerely, la mamita del hood, Ramona-Santiago <3
