We were almost engaged 20 years ago and I broke up with him. Since then I’ve been married and divorced; he has never married. I ran into him at his father’s funeral 2.5 weeks ago and he seemed thrilled to see me and asked me to “stay in touch.” Since then I have called him once, when he asked for my numbers; and then a second time on short notice to escort me to an event. He had other plans but told me to please keep calling him, or he would call me, so we can go out to dinner after work one night (we live 30 miles from eachother so meeting after work is easiest). In that most recent conversation, he also said “But let’s keep it light, okay?” I would hope that he just wants to have fun til we get to know eachother again (I was quite the drama queen 20 years ago)… am I correct?

if someone tells me to “keep it light”, I would take it to mean that we weren’t going to be exclusive at this time.
my advice to you is to continue to date others while still seeing him until you get to know each other better (it’s been 20 years. both of you have changed & you aren’t the same people you were the last time you were together. so treat him like you would anyone else you just met and were attracted to.)
I recommend dating others so that you don’t get too emotionally invested in him too quickly and slip back into your old drama queen ways and run him off (sometimes renewing past relationships has a way of causing you to regress & you don’t want that or he’ll be your ex-BF again.)
